Eastern Himalayan species are some of the most mesmerising species found in Indian subcontinent. Explore the birdlife of Eastern Himalayas in one of the best birding destinations in the country, Sikkim.  We take you to South and West Sikkim to witness the magic of Himalayan Birding.

 

 

ITINERARY

 

DAY 1: 21st April 2020: Arrive at Bagdogra airport and drive to Rabongla

Rabongla in South Sikkim is one of the best birding spots. Here we can cover up from 1700 meters to 2300 meters above sea level.  Full day birding and stay at Rabongla at a homestay

Day 2: 22nd April 2020: Full day birding around Rabongla

We will be birding around Rabongla for full day.  Stay at Rabongla

Day 3: 23rd April 2020: Morning birding around Rabongla and later move to Okhrey in West  Sikkim. 4hrs drive. (Accommodation in homestay at Okhrey)

Today we will bird around Ralong road in the morning where we will get to see Himalayan Cutia, Striated Bulbul, Scarlet Finch, Laughingthrushes, Wren Babblers etc. Afternoon we shall proceed to Okhrey in West Sikkim.

Okhrey will be our base for 3 nights. From here we go birding to Hilley and Barsey Rhododendron sanctuary everyday. The entire stretch from Okhrey to Hilley and further to Barsay is completely forested. Okhrey village is on an elevation of 2100m and Hilley is 2400m.

 

Day 4 and Day 5: 24th & 25th April 2020: Two full days of birding around Hilley and Bersay Rhododendron sanctuary.

Hilley is completely a high altitude rhododendron and bamboo forest. Here the species we will be looking for includes Chestnut-crowned, Scaly, Black-faced, Bhutan and Spotted Laughingthrush, Brown, Great, Black-throated and Fulvous Parrotbill, White-browed, Golden-breasted and Rufous-winged Fulvetta, Satyr Tragopan, Streak-breasted and Slender-billed Scimitar Babbler, Spotted Nutcracker, Gold-naped Finch, Maroon-backed and Rufous-breasted Accentor etc.

If luck favours we can see Red Panda as well.

Day 6: 26th April 2020: Morning birding followed by drive to airport. (Bagdogra airport 5 hrs.)

Morning birding in Kewzing till breakfast followed by drop to Bagdogra Airport/ NJP post lunch.
